The studio on the corner of 80th and Greenwood in North Seattle offers movement and dance classes for children ages two months (with parent) to adult. It aims to provide instruction to beginners and experienced dancers alike, in a non-threatening, non-competitive environment.

Class offerings include pre-ballet, ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, Irish, Polynesian/Hula, Flamenco, parent/toddler, and Nurturing Baby.

Birthday parties and studio rental are also available.

Andrew's Playroom is an indoor play center and party place specifically designed for kids ages nine months to five years.

Facilities include clubhouses, a play hut tunnel system, a pretend market, kitchen, and garage, toddler basketball, golf, bowling, board games, and activity books.

Baby Power Forever Kids offers preschool classes, parents' night out programs, birthday parties, and parent/child play and enrichment classes.

BabyLingual offers foreign language immersion classes in Spanish and French for babies and young children accompanied by an adult. Classes are 55 minutes long and include dancing, singing, reading, and play in the foreign language.

Ballard offers before- and afterschool care, toddler programs, dance classes (creative ballet, pre-ballet for young children, jazz dance, and dance workshops), piano, pottery, youth sports programs, an urban 4-H program for ages five-19, an active teen program (Saturday night concerts, service learning, and arts exploration), intermittent language and nature classes for all ages, and day camps for children and teens.

Indoor Play for parents and children from infants to five years is offered during weekday operating hours at a fee of $2/day. It's closed during the summer.

Day Camps, for kindergartners through six graders, run during the summer and feature swimming, field trips, and theme days. The camps run all day, with pre- and post-camp care available. Camps also run during school breaks.

Bounce Back Stroller Fitness offers 60-minute workouts along North Tacoma's waterfront that combine walking, jogging, interval training, and core work.

Advance registration is not required. Just bring along a yoga mat or towel and a sturdy stroller. Moms must be six weeks postpartum to participate (or 10 weeks after a C-section). Arrive five minutes before class time.

Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center is an independent, private, not-for-profit regional pediatric center, and has been recognized as one of the top three children's hospitals in the country by Child Magazine.

The Family Resource Center (FRC) is located on the 5th floor near the train elevators, and provides information and support for patient families, including an extensive collection of books, pamphlets, and reference materials. It also provides a place for families to have a quiet moment away from the bedside. Unique services and facilities include parent massage, vending area with free coffee and hot beverages, computer workstations for email and internet access, laundry and parent sleeping rooms for intensive care parents. Children's also offers a changing roster of classes for youth and parents on topics such as potty training, growing up for boys and girls, siblings, infant & child CPR, babysitting, baby sign, and more. Cometa is a Spanish immersion playschool located in West Seattle's Admiral District. The curriculum teaches Spanish through songs, games, stories, and practical life activities, including gardening and cooking. The program includes parent/tot lessons, morning preschool, and a Saturday Club for school age children.

The Community Center at Mercer View is open daily and offers beautiful views of Lake Washington and the Cascades. The two-story facility features meeting rooms, an arts and crafts area, an indoor art gallery, health, fitness, and dance rooms, a game room with foosball, board games, pool, and cable TV, free Wi-fi, and a children's play area.

Creative Dance Center offers a wide variety of dance and movement classes for all ages - including infant (ages two months to pre-walking), parent/toddler (walking to two-and-a-half), and parent/child (ages two-and-a-half to four) classes; creative dance and creative ballet (ages three-and-a-half to six); dance and art (ages three-and-a-half to six); dance, drama, and art (ages five to seven); creative modern (ages six to eight); modern (ages eight to 15); ballet (ages seven to 16); and intergenerational community dance (ages six to adult).

The Dale Turner Family YMCA opened in October 2008 and offers state-of-the-art facilities, including a gym, a cycling studio, a pool, a family center, a climbing wall, a community kitchen, and a children's adventure zone.

This weird museum's 140,000 square feet includes galleries dedicated to music artifacts and exhibits, interactive exhibits, and the soaring Sky Church Concert Hall. Most exhibits here won't appeal to kids under five, although the interior of the museum is so visually arresting - an explosion of shiny surfaces, curving lines, and varied planes - that it's possible to keep a toddler busy just looking around.

If you have young children in tow, look for the Speaking Orbs on the second floor, a musical sculpture that plays when you wave your hands over shiny metal spheres. The sculpture Roots and Branches, a ceiling-high structure hung with more guitars than you've ever seen in your life, evoked a wow from our toddler, who also liked listening to the music available from several computer stations clustered around the sculpture.

Kids who are interested in music will find lots here to engage their imaginations. They can play instruments and record music in the Sound Lab, take a walk through modern musical history in the Milestones exhibit, and learn everything they ever wanted to know about Jimi Hendrix. Family-friendly programs here include the popular Family Days offered the third Saturday of each month from 11am-3pm, with activities inlcuding art projects, music demonstrations, special tours, and workshops. The pricey, multidisciplinary Experience Arts Camp for aspiring artists ages 5-16, is held during summer break. FamilyWorks offers a variety of family-support services: drop-in playgroups, parent support groups, after-school tutoring for students in grade one-five, and a variety of other activities like family cooking classes, family activity times, and special events.

Garfield is one of Seattle's best community centers, located next door to the Medgar Evers Pool. The center offers sports programs, dance and movement classes, music lessons, before- and after school programs, summer and school break camps

The center is well-known for its special teen programs, including a Teen Life Center where kids ages 14 to 17 can congregate for dances, barbecues, or just have a place to call their own where they can hang out with friends. Services include childbirth classes, prenatal yoga, postpartum conditioning, lactation consulting, breast pump rental, massage, labor and postpartum doulas, chiropractic and acupuncture, nutrition counseling, perinatal counseling, siblings classes, infant massage, infant CPR, and Footsteps new moms groups.

Footsteps is a group where new mothers can drop by and share information with other new moms. The groups form continuously and are facilitated by a childbirth educator with an MA, LMP, and five kids.

Green Lake Community Center offers a variety of programs for all ages, including a play center for toddlers, pottery classes, sports (tennis, martial arts, volleyball, flag football, soccer, basketball), excellent drama classes held in conjunction with the Seattle Public Theatre, early childhood music classes, a teen program (including Friday Teen Night), and a changing array of classes.

Preschool classes are available for children ages three to five.

The center is attached to Evans Pool, which offers a variety of instructional, recreational, and exercise swim programs.

Gymboree offers play, music, and art classes - in a brightly colored, tactilely exciting environment - for children ages newborn-five. Classes here emphasize physical and social development (and peer support for parents), sneaked in under the guise of simply having a lot of fun. Prospective students are invited to check out a free trial class; call the location you're interested in to arrange or just drop in.

Play classes are divided up into six age-appropriate groups that meet at different times, plus a sibling class. Children and their parents sing, make music, move, explore, and play with props like a parachute and a large ball, in an environment geared toward the age group's interests and abilities.

Music classes help kids learn about and explore music through age-appropriate songs and music play, instrument exploration, movement, and emphasis on melody, pitch, and rhythm and other music basics.

Art classes engage kids in a wide variety of arts experiences, with a focus on allowing kids to exercise their creativity.

Our three-year-old attended a play class at the Ballard location and loved every bit of it, including the music parade, the parachute songs and games, the cooperative carrying game for parents and kids, and the bubbles. The instructor engaged the children without a trace of condescension or over-perkiness, and truly seemed to enjoy what she was doing. The term "play class" is accurate; although classes might contain a tumbling component for certain age groups, they're not primarily focused on gymnastic elements like other local gyms for kids, but rather on getting participants to experience and enjoy movement and bonding with parents and other children.
