Teens have a full schedule that includes sports classes, arts, dance, performing arts, movie nights, and a chance to sit on the Teen Advisory Council. Drop-in activities include ping-pong and pool all day, as well as a drop-in playtime for tots and their parents during the fall and winter. The Community Center also hosts periodic community events like picnics or sports days for youth. A children's playground and playfield are located adjacent to the center. The center offers before- and after school care, summer camps, and school break camps. Parents' nights out are offered once a month. The Community Center's art classes are held at the Bathhouse Art Studio, a beautiful venue located on Alki Beach. |

These are well-regarded programs in the area, and ideal for parents who want to be closely involved in their child's education. Parents are expected to contribute time to the program, as well as to attend periodic meetings. Parents whose children are enrolled in a Parent Cooperative preschool are also enrolled in a vocational course through the SSCC called Parent Education Child Study Laboratory, which fosters parenting and family management skills. Tuition is relatively low, and paid at the preschool location. Open enrollment occurs in March - but put your child's name on the wait list for spots that open up during the year. Call for fee information (each preschool sets its own tuition), class times, and to arrange a visit. Older children learn tumbling and apparatus skills, while gradeschoolers build on those skills in a non-competitive environment. Advanced gymnastics classes, by invitation, are also available for kids ages three-12. Infants to three-year-olds attend with a caregiver, while kids over three attend on their own. A sports skills class teaches kids ages three-eight the basics in soccer, baseball, basketball, and football, in combination with gymnastics. Classes are also available in karate (ages four-12) and dance (ages three-12) Birthday parties: A 90-minute party, led by trained staff, includes gymnastics, games, music, set-up/clean-up, paper goods, invitations, and a t-shirt for the birthday child.
