Burien CC offers classes of all types and for all ages (karate, gymnastics, yoga, ballet, a variety of art classes, and school break activities for kids of all ages), teen activities, a skate park, and family-friendly programs and shows in the center's auditorium. This is Burien's only community center.

Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center is an independent, private, not-for-profit regional pediatric center, and has been recognized as one of the top three children's hospitals in the country by Child Magazine.

The Family Resource Center (FRC) is located on the 5th floor near the train elevators, and provides information and support for patient families, including an extensive collection of books, pamphlets, and reference materials. It also provides a place for families to have a quiet moment away from the bedside. Unique services and facilities include parent massage, vending area with free coffee and hot beverages, computer workstations for email and internet access, laundry and parent sleeping rooms for intensive care parents. The Children's Resource Line offers nurse consultation and information on a wide variety of health topics, including family and parenting issues and special needs children. This information can also be obtained online. [206.987.2500; 866.987.2500].

Children's also offers a changing roster of classes for youth and parents on topics such as potty training, growing up for boys and girls, siblings, infant & child CPR, babysitting, baby sign, and more. Good Growing, a quarterly newsletter that lists class information, and my Good Growing is the electronic version. Information about both newsletters is available online.

The Community Center at Mercer View is open daily and offers beautiful views of Lake Washington and the Cascades. The two-story facility features meeting rooms, an arts and crafts area, an indoor art gallery, health, fitness, and dance rooms, a game room with foosball, board games, pool, and cable TV, free Wi-fi, and a children's play area.

Edmonds Parks and Recreation offers a variety of recreation classes for children and adults. Children's programs include gymnastics, music, dance, babysitting, and etiquette classes. Summer day camp opportunities are also available.

Gracewinds Perinatal Services offers birth- and family-related services to women and families.

Services include childbirth classes, prenatal yoga, postpartum conditioning, lactation consulting, breast pump rental, massage, labor and postpartum doulas, chiropractic and acupuncture, nutrition counseling, perinatal counseling, siblings classes, infant massage, infant CPR, and Footsteps new moms groups.

Footsteps is a group where new mothers can drop by and share information with other new moms. The groups form continuously and are facilitated by a childbirth educator with an MA, LMP, and five kids.

North Kirkland Community Center offers year-round parent/child, preschool, youth, and teen recreation programs, as well as classes in music, art, dance, drama, cooking, science, languages, yoga, aerobics, and more. A current class schedule is online or available at the center. Registration is available online as well.

The center also has a drop-in indoor playground for children ages one to five, open from mid-September through early June. Call for days and times.

Summer Junior Day Camps are available for kids ages six to eight. Peter Kirk Camps are offered in the summer for kids ages six to twelve.

Indoor Playground Birthday Party packages are available for children ages one to five.

In addition to Overlake's level III Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery for sick and premature babies and its overall reputation as a fine place to give birth, the hospital offers an excellent, reasonably priced array of parenting, safety, and CPR classes, as well as etiquette classes for grade- and middle schoolers. The Phinney Neighborhood Association, housed in a beautiful old converted elementary school, helps build community by offering classes and programs for adults, cooperative preschool, before- and afterschool care for school-age kids, and vacation and summer day camps.

It also hosts a wide variety of community organizations that offer classes for kids in music, martial arts, and dance. The center also offers infant/child CPR classes on a regular basis. For class information, check the website or contact the center - offerings change quarterly.

The PNA's full calendar includes fun family-friendly events like the annual Halloween Carnival, Winter Festival and Crafts Fair, and the Ridge Romp children's entertainment series, held on the second Saturday of each month during the school year.
