Preschool Storytime Tuesdays 10:30; Family Storytime Saturdays 1:30 pm; Preschool Films the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30am; Lapsits on alternating Thursdays, call for dates.

Bayview/Waden Branch Library houses a computer center and Teen Center. Every Monday at 10:15am it has a preschool storytime. And homework help is offered Monday through Thursday, 3pm-6pm.

Berkeley Central Library is also a designated Historical Landmark. Besides books, the library also offers an extensive selection of audio-books and video recordings for families as well as computers with internet access.

The Central Children's Room offers an ongoing schedule of Baby Bounce, Wiggles and Giggles, and the Saturday morning Wild About Books program, featuring guests, puppetry, and lots of good stories.

Baby Bounce and Toddler Time: Nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays, lap bounces, and very short picture books for children six to 36 months old and their caregivers.

Wiggles and Giggles: Stories, songs, fingerplays and stretches for children three to five years old.

Wild About Books: This 45 minute program of stories, songs, and other activities features a special guests or puppet shows. Children's Librarians add their own music, magic and storytelling skills to each week's mix.

Bernal Heights Library, in the heart of the small shopping district on Cortland, is a comfortable library, with a fairly extensive children's section.

The library is currently closed for renovation.

The BJE Jewish Community Library serves adults and children with collections of books, picture books, CDs, tapes, videos, and DVDs.

The Library and all family programs are free and open to the public.

Chinatown Branch Library offers preschool storytime and many other special programs for children and teens.

Eureka Valley/Harvey Milk Memorial Branch Library is a community library with a rich children's book section. Programs include infant/toddler lapsits, afternoon storytimes, and programs by special performers. Children (ages 13 and under) can join the Summer Reading Club, starting in June.

NOte: The library is closed for renovation. Programs are held at the Eureka Valley Recreation Center Auditorium, 100 Collingwood Street (between 18th and 19th Streets).

Ingleside Branch Library offers children's foreign language books in Spanish and Chinese.

In cooperation with a network of regional and subregional libraries, the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) provides a free library service of audiocassette recorded and braille books and magazines to residents of the United States and to American citizens abroad who are unable to read or use standard printed material because of visual or physical disabilities.

Marina Branch Library offers an ongoing storytime, as well as other programs for children and teens.

Merced Branch Library offers weekly storytimes and other children's programs.

Mission Bay Branch Library, a branch of the public library, not to be confused with the Mission Branch, offers storytimes and lots of special programs for children.

The Children's Room is large and comfortable.

The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped provides free access to library materials especially designed for those with low vision or blindness or any type of physical disability.

Through NLS' national network of regional libraries, books and magazines on cassettes and in braille, as well as audio equipment, are mailed straight to participants' doors, at no cost.

The Noe Valley/Sally Brunn Branch Library offers ongoing storytimes, as well as various special programs for children and teens.

North Beach Library offers lapsits and storytimes for wee ones, as well as special programs for children of all ages.

Ocean View Branch Library hosts a weekly storytime, as well as other children's programs.

Ortega Branch Library has a children's section, and offers lapsits and children's storytime, as well as special children's workshops and programs. Please check the calendar.

Parkside Branch Library offers an ongoing preschool storytime, as well as various other children's events and programs.

Pittsburg Library, located in Civic Center Plaza, is part of the Contra Costa Library system.

Portola Branch Library offers an ongoing storytime, as well as various other children's programs. The library also hosts a lapsit program on the second and third Thursdays of the month, 11:15am, at Family Connections, 2565 San Bruno Avenue.

Potrero Branch Library offers ongoing storytimes and lapsits, as well as various other children's programs.

Potrero Branch is closed for renovation. Programs are held at St. Teresa's Community Room on Connecticut Street near the corner of 19th Street.

The Presidio Branch of the San Francisco Public Library offers a variety of storytime programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Richmond Branch Library is currently closed for renovation, slated to reopen in 2009.

The library is one of the most technologically advanced in the country, starting with the talking elevators, which call out helpful information like "going up," and "second floor."

You'll want to get out on the second floor, incidentally, because that's where the Fisher Children's Center is located. At the Center, kids can work on the computers, read stories, or play video games. There are lots of desks and places to sit. On Saturdays preschoolers are invited to a story reading (11am-11:30am).

Next door is another room where kids can watch movies, or do crafts or some other scheduled activity. On the sixth floor, kids can explore the roof garden and terrace.

Sunset Branch Library offers ongoing storytimes for little ones, as well as various other children's events and programs.

The Society's painting collection consists of both landscapes and portraits. Yosemite Valley and the Sierra Nevada are well represented by major early California artists including Thomas Hill, William Keith, Theodore Wores, Charles D Robinson, and Ransom G Holdredge.

The museum also houses a costume and accessory collection that includes everyday bonnets worn crossing the plains and an 1830s US Consul's ceremonial uniform resplendent with gold braids and plumed hat.

The Alice Phelan Sullivan Library is a 10,000 volume research center for the study of California history.
