Dr. Olsen is the only dentist in Utah who is board certified in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, and he teaches dental residents at Primary Children's Medical Center. Dr. Olsen works a lot with special needs children - the rooms all have wheelchair access and the staff is great about catering to the needs of children with autism.

The waiting room is designed especially for kids; a slide, TV, and Love Sac all serve to put children at ease while they wait to see the dentist. Once in the exam rooms, children can watch movies of their choice on a television mounted within the ceiling. When getting cavities filled, scented nitrous is used; patients get to choose the scent (strawberry, banana, bubble gum, etc.). The staff uses gentle language/terminology that children understand (i.e. "sleepy medicine" instead of "nitrous"), and work hard to avoid the usage of alarming words ("shot"). Kids get a coin for the "treasure machine" upon completion of their visit.

Michael Tew, DDS is a specialist in pediatric dentistry. He provides dental care for infants, children, and adolescents. The office is clean, and very much geared toward children. The staff is friendly, and the playhouse waiting room helps put children at ease before going in to the exam room. Dr. Tew offers pediatric sedation, but hopefully through his practice of preventative dentistry, most kids he sees never need it.

The office is closed each day from 12:30pm to 1:30pm for a lunch break.

Dr. Johnson is a pediatric dentist who sees patients at his Riverton office and is an attending pediatric dentist at Alta View Hospital and Primary Children's Medical Center

To ensure patient comfort, headphones and music are available, and patients can select from several methods of treatment to receive a pain-free or virtually pain-free experience.

Dr. Dickson is a general dentist who offers orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry, implants, and regular dental care for families. His caring and easygoing demeanor puts patients at ease no matter what their age or situation.

When really young children are coming in for their first dental visit, the entire visit is designed to put the child at ease. The dentist gives them a ride up and down in the chair and counts the child's teeth. It's a fun, introductory experience, making subsequent visits to the dentist something to look forward to.

While in the waiting room, kids can play with a bead runner or the Lego table, or peruse the selection of Highlights magazines. Once in the exam room, children of all ages enjoy looking at the whimsical collection of birdhouses around the room. At the end of the visit, kids get a coin to put in a prize machine at the end of the hall. They also get to select an item out of a prize basket.

Children like coming to Dr. Dickson because they feel like he really listens to them and their concerns. He takes the time to talk them through particularly scary procedures and gives them choices in their care. Dr. Dickson and his staff are especially effective at putting nervous patients (kids or adults) at ease. When patience and good humor aren't enough to calm the jitters, Dr. Dickson can opt for nitrous gas or prescription medications to help relax the especially apprehensive patient.

Dr. Dickson is clearly passionate about his patients - particularly the children. He wants kids to feel happy with their smiles, and recognizes how much a child's smile can impact that child's self-confidence and self-esteem.

Dr. Dickson and his staff make sure that patients with emergencies are seen and taken care of as soon as possible. After a child has been sedated in his office, or after the dentist performs any surgical procedure on a patient, Dr. Dickson always calls that evening or the next day to make sure everything is okay - just one more thing that makes the patient feel that their health and well-being are important.

Kids can entertain themselves in the waiting room with a felt board, bead chaser, Lego table, and other games/toys. Once in the dental chair, patients are offered fun sunglasses to keep the bright lights out of their eyes and handheld games and toys. Music is available to calm patients too, but most agree that the best calming device is the dentist himself - his demeanor is warm and comfortable, and he's extremely patient.

Children are sent away with a goody bag and a prize of their choice.
