The West Jordan Historical Museum is a non-profit organization supported by the West Jordan Historical Society. The small homestead museum features several out buildings (including a dairy barn and a blacksmith shop), live chickens, antique farm equipment, one of the original carousel horses from Saltair, and many more historical treasures from the area. A tour through the museum's buildings and grounds is fun for children of all ages.

The museum grounds can be reserved for private functions such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, and family reunions. Call for details.

The Utah Foster Care Foundation provides the resources and training necessary for people to learn about and become foster/adoptive families. The organization hosts a variety of public events to raise awareness of the need for foster care.

Through its programs and services for women and children, the YWCA of Salt Lake City addresses a variety of basic, immediate needs for safety, shelter, food, and clothing, as well as longer term needs for affordable housing, quality child care and preschool, economic empowerment, emotional health, and physical well being.

The Lolie Eccles Child Care Center provides full-time child care for infants and young children between the ages of six weeks and kindergarten. The child care center is open 7:30am-5:30pm Monday through Friday and serves a healthy lunch and snacks. The licensed program curriculum includes stimulating activities for small/large motor skill development, hand/eye coordination, introduction to sounds, language, colors, letters, numbers, and social themes such as families, holidays, seasons, and foods to celebrate diversity and culture.

The Teen Home is the only residential facility in the state of Utah for pregnant and parenting teen girls and their babies who are homeless, in state's custody, or have nowhere else to go. In a caring and positive environment, pregnant and parenting teens create healthier lives for themselves and their children by ending the multigenerational patterns of poverty and abuse, and by working toward self-sufficiency. The Lolie Eccles Teen Home has the capacity to serve 12 girls and their babies each night. While living at the Teen Home, teens receive individual and group therapy weekly, attend educational classes where they learn parenting skills, healthy relationship choices, and independent living skills, their school progress is monitored, and tutoring is available. Pre-natal, post-partum, and well-baby medical care is provided and each teen attends adoption counseling.

The Education Program is designed to prevent family violence through proactive education and outreach. The YWCA offers outreach presentations, classes, and trainings on domestic abuse, dating violence, and teen pregnancy for schools, businesses, churches, and civic organizations. Advocacy, referrals, and psycho-educational classes are offered to women, teens, and children who are at high risk for family violence. The program helps participants become empowered through education and information to prevent domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and teen pregnancy - to make healthier life choices based on dignity, respect, and protections from risk. The YWCA of Salt Lake City operates as a local autonomous 501(c)3 charitable organization, supported and governed by the local community.

The Department of Public Works covers the county's planning, engineering, flood control, sanitation, storm water, and animal services needs. Every spring the department has an open house during which families can tour the facilities to learn how traffic signals work, how signs are made, how noxious weeds are controlled, how our drinking water is tested and kept safe, how bees are controlled, and get up close and maybe even climb inside of some of those cool vehicles children love to watch - street sweepers, garbage trucks, snow plows, etc.

Like a virtual children's art museum, Artsonia is an online collection of kids' artwork from around the world. Kids can take the masterpieces they've created and upload them onto the website. Family and friends can then visit the artwork and participate in activities that allow them to take an active role in a child's art education, even if they live far away. There is no cost to participate, and Artsonia currently has artwork from children in over 100 countries.
