Alta Canyon Sports Center is full of activities for all age groups. The highlight of the Center is the outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool, open Memorial Day through Labor Day, which offers magnificent views of the mountains. A concession stand is open during swim times to buy snacks.
Swimming lessons include: American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program for children six months to five years, Level I-VII for children five years and older, diving classes, Boy Scout Water Safety Program, teen lessons, Jr. Guard, and Pre-Competitive Swim Team for seven to 15-year-olds. Prices and times vary; call for more information.
Pool hours are Mon-Fri 12n-4:30pm & 6:30pm-8pm; Sat 12n-8pm; Sun 12n-5pm (Memorial Day-Labor Day). Call for holiday schedule.
Tumbling classes are offered for ages three to ten. Classes are taught Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Boys and girls of all levels can participate.
Tennis coach Ken Wade offers
tennis lessons for five to 18-year-old children. Levels include Beginner and Intermediate, and class size is limited to fifteen players per class. Both spring and summer lessons are offered. Call or check the website for dates, times, and prices. Registration begins in early April.
Afternoon
Pre-school is offered in the fall three days a week from Labor Day to Memorial Day for three to five year olds.
The FIRST Club is offered both before- and afterschool and off-track for kids in grades one through six. It is a state licensed childcare program. Children participate in recreational activities, arts & crafts, and can get homework help. The program also includes a weekly fieldtrip and daily snacks. Kid's Summer Camp activities at the Alta Canyon Sports Center include arts and crafts, swimming, and active play. Also offered are outings to places such as
Raging Waters, the
Museum of Natural History, Nickelcade,
Classic Skating, bowling, and
The Gateway. Each week of camp has a theme. The camp is designed especially for kids between the ages of five and 12.
Teens can register for
R.E.B.A.L. Summer Camp (Recreation and Endurance Boys And Ladies). The camps are for teens ages 12 to 14, and planned activities include sports, arts and crafts, and fieldtrips. Some specific fieldtrips/activities the camp has offered are trips to
Boondocks,
Raging Waters, Nickelcade, and movie premiers. The weeks are themed, with themes catering to teens.
For both the teen camps and the kid summer camps, there is a $100 registration fee for each session, and registration begins in mid to late March. Call or check the website for dates and pricing.
Children ages three to seven can enroll in
Kinder Camp. Morning and afternoon sessions are offered four days each week for two weeks. Sessions include swim lessons, so children should arrive ready to swim. Space is limited to 12 children per session. Call or check the website for dates and pricing; registration begins in early April.
Sports-minded kids ages seven to 12 can try the
Champ Camp, a week-long summer camp teaching basic rules for ten team sports, and opportunities to play them. Registration begins in early March. Call or check the website for dates and pricing.
Alta Canyon Sports Center hosts
birthday parties, private pool parties, and offers private pool pavilion rental at its outdoor 50-meter pool. Call for reservations.
Family
memberships are available for the summer or on an annual basis. Residents qualify for a discount on memberships. Call for prices and for more information.
