Whipper Snippers combines a children's hair salon for the downtown crowd, set in the way back of the store, with a toy store that offers a really fun and well-thought-out selection.

Kids ages newborn to tweens can get a quick cut, and parents and teens can get a trim, too. Cutting stations include two regular chairs, two "jeep" car chairs, and one hairwashing station. All have a video/tv component to distract the leery haircuttee.

Lulu's Cuts and Toys, winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the Best Haircut for Little Kids and Big Kids in Brooklyn, is a kid's hair salon and toystore that also offers cuts for moms and dads.

Glamour Girl Parties provide 10 young ladies (ages five to nine) with "makeovers" - hair done in up/do's with curls and glitter, mini-manicures, and more. Age appropriate arts & crafts activities and music are included as well as pizza, snacks, and juice boxes. After the two-hour extravaganza, everyone leaves with balloons and a personal Polaroid. And Lulu's takes care of cleaning up. Parents are responsible for the birthday cake
and goody bags.

The shop's toy selection includes brands such as Brio, Plan Toys, Hello Kitty, Scientific Explorer Kits, Wild Planet, Lego, Pixel Blocks, Radio Flyer, as well as assorted arts & crafts supplies.

Doodle Doo's offers all the usual amenities when it comes to cajoling kids into a hair cut, from TVs (with an impressive selection of DVDs) to cute styling stations (seats resemble classic wooden toys - a boat or car) to bubbles.

Children getting their first haircut ever receive a certificate and gift bag.

Birthday party options include glamour parties with manicures, pedicures, styling, face painting, and glitter. Boys can opt for hair paint and temporary tattoos. Pizza, cake, party invitations, and more can be added to the mix for an additional fee. Parties typically run 90 minutes, and are held on Sundays or Mondays (but just ask if you need to have the party on another day). The party rate covers 12 children; each extra child adds $30 to the price.

A small but thoughtful array of toys are for sale in the back, in addition to cute baby tees and onesies. It's easy to avoid if a haircut is really all you need.

Dr. Silverman takes all the time a young child needs to get adjusted to going to the dentist. The office staff is very friendly, too.

Dr. Silverman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1985. He completed his residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY in 1986. He has also taught in the Oral Medicine Department at NYU, School of Dentistry and is a recognized fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Gelman's pediatric dental service provides check-ups, crowns, dental sealants, fillings, fluoride treatments, and teeth cleaning.

A visit to the Village office of pediatric dentist Lois Jackson can convince even the most petrified child into looking forward to their next visit. Dr. Jackson and her excellent staff use patience, humor, and comprehensive medical expertise to attend to a child's dental health.

The office, though a bit cramped at busy times, is adorned with all the toys of a kid's dreams as well as a post-visit gift drawer full of cool little reward trinkets - an extra added bonus.
