This is real old-fashioned barber shop and young and old (we've only seen men and boys) alike can have their hair cut side by side.

Though the chairs are old, and the floor isn't swept as often as we'd like, it does cater to children with a few rocking toys in the waiting area and abundant lollipops and bubble gum.

Young children can use booster seats or sit on an adult's lap - whichever works the best. The staff are barbers (not trained to work with children), but we've seen most of them in action and they really make an effort to make children feel comfortable.

At $13 for a haircut (young or old) the price can't be beat. It's usually so busy that the fact that they don't have kid videos at every station just doesn't seem to matter.

SmartToyRental.com is an educational organization that rents high quality, developmentally specific toys for children of all ages.

The website offers a large variety of toys (and a few books) for different ages and levels. Toys can be purchased outright or borrowed using a four- or six-month rental plan. Members can keep the toys as long as they wish; there are no late fees.

When toys are returned, they are cleaned using non-toxic soap and water; some items may be machine-washed. The toys are then bagged or shrink-wrapped and shipped out to the next customer. New items may be sent in their original packaging.

If you'd like to get your child involved in dance class, but the more traditional ballet or tap are out of the question (maybe they're just not cool enough), check out Hip Hop Kidz. You may have seen the Hip Hop Kidz dance troupe in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, or at halftime during the Heat basketball games. Though the Performance Troupe is by invitation only, anyone can participate in the dance classes.

Classes are offered for children ages five through 19 years. Price for two months (two hours/week) is $185, depending on the class. Discounts are offered for more than one child enrolled in the program.

Hip Hop Kidz offers a Hip Hop theme party that is half entertainment and half interactive, appropriate for ages 4 years old to teenage, and are unique and one of a kind. Parties can be held at the home, their facility, or a park or party room. Length of the party is two hours and consists of a performance with the nationally-known Hip Hop Kidz Production Company dancers. Each party also includes a fun follow along with the party-leader/choreographer who teaches party guests some of the latest hip hop moves to the most popular hip hop music. Interactive Hip Hop games are also included. The price for the two-hour party is $400. The parties are available in both Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Susan Linder, a children's recording artist and entertainer, is a Miami favorite. She will come to your child's birthday party, perform for approximately 40 minutes, and provide a cassette for your child.

She also performs at school and other social functions. We've seen Susan perform at local school functions and the kids really enjoy themselves.
