The store sponsors frequent special events for families, including author appearances, puppet shows, and weekly storytimes, usually on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30am and Saturdays at 11:30am.

BookPeople also hosts innovative literary day camps for teens and pre-teens during the summer and school-year vacation weeks. Activities range from historical reenactment to fantasy retelling, centered around specific stories and author series.

The School of International Languages offers full-day and individual classes in Spanish and German, with Chinese morning classes, piano lessons, art/photography classes, and academics in English for children ages three to five years old.

A summer camp program is offered for ages six to 12, in addition to individual Chinese, German, and Spanish classes, which are offered during the school year on weekdays in the early evenings.

He and his wife Angeline gave their estate, including their studio and many sculptures, to the City of Austin in 1985. The Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum is home to more than 130 sculptures, drawings, and paintings.

The Garden is wheelchair-accessible, and therefore easy on the strollers too. Kids can pick up a Sculpture Safari packet to turn a visit into a real adventure as they hunt for each sculpture; completed Safari forms can be turned in for a reward.

The Austin School of Music offers private and class
instruction in a variety of disciplines, all taught by some of Austin's best known and most accomplished working musicians.

Tuition is paid on a month-to-month basis (no long term commitment). Most students take one half hour lesson per week.

The School of Music also hosts a spring break and summer Rock Camp for ages eight and up. "Lil Rockers," ages five to seven, can attend a summer session.
