- My kids (4 and 2) love Pinecrest Gardens, especially the splash park (get there early because it can get very busy). Having grown up near the park when it was Parrot Jungle, it is so much more functional for the neighborhood as a free park rather than tourist attraction (no offense to the parrots!) Take plenty of mosquito repellent also - it is beautiful and lush and the mosquitos love it!

[Submitted by C&D's mom 4/20/08 - I first visited this place 25 years ago when it was the original Parrot Jungle. I grew up next door to the park and to the original owners. Our family among others worked hard to fight the new owners who wanted to turn it into a major theme park. Many years later the City of Pinecrest acquired the park and has worked hard to keep it as beautiful as it was when the Scheer family owned it. I am so thankful that my children have the opportunity to play in this special park as I once did 25 years ago.

[Submitted by motherofgirls 4/20/08 - This is one of our favorite places to go and spend a fun day. We usually bring our own lunch, like sandwiches, chips and ice cold water bottles...but occacionally we buy at the consetion stand where 2 hot dogs, 2 chips and 2 drinks run us about $10.00 (not bad since all the to-do stuff is FREE). We love the splash area, although the shade is limited for us parents, so I suggest to get there early and save yourself one of the shaded benches. However, I usually bring an umbrella and sit anywhere while my son runs around and plays(he is 4). The playground is great, he can play and run around after lunch as I sit and relax on one of the many picnic tables. The petting zoo is also fun, make sure you bring hand wipes though for after. All that and the beautiful trees and vegiation that give you great pictures opportunities make for a great, FREE, fun time.
