The world famous Mexican market on Olvera Street serves as the nerve center of ElPueblo ...
For a taste of LA history, why not stop for a bite at La Golondrina while you're in the neighborhood?
Take the 3A Broadway exit off the 101 Freeway. Turn north on Broadway, east on Cesar E Chavez Avenue, then south on Olvera Street. The street is east of Main Street and west of Alameda Street.

- My sister who lives in Los Angeles had never been to Olvera Street. We went on a weekend and were very surprised how nice it was. Open air shopping and authentic Mexican food. They had adults and children dressed in ancient Mexican costume, dancing and making music in the center courtyard. Plan on spending a couple of hours there because it is fairly small.

If you crave traditional Mexican food - this is the place for you. The only drawback I can think of is that on a very hot Los Angeles day, it can become a bit daunting - the crowds, the food aromas, and lack of air circulation can take it's toll on you quickly. Keep a cold drink handy. Olvera Street is also a hop, skip and a jump away from Japantown and Chinatown. Fun to walk from one culture to another.
